THE SITE AND ITS CHALLENGES

This property had a good sized garden, but a large central tree dominated the area the garden room would be built within. This tree would need to link the family garden room with the kid’s play space.

At the end of the garden was  a small woodland, so the garden room would not be overlooked. The property had easy access so there was no requirement for any HUG crew to walk through the house to access the garden.

As the garden was long and narrowed slightly towards the end, the design would need to be adjusted to match the line of the garden fence and boundary.

The family garden room was designed to be 6m x 5.5m (narrowing to 4.7m), the garden room is a large building with all the flexible space required to fulfil the brief of a multi-use family garden room.

IDEAS AND CONCEPTS

After our first meeting and look at the plot, we had an initial chat through of the requirements. It was then time to go away to sketch and design a solution the client could use to visualise the finished family garden room.

Once approved we could then use that design for the basis of creating the technical specifications.

THE HUG SOLUTION

The front of the building has been angled to face up the garden towards the house, so whilst inside the family garden room you get a beautiful view up the garden. The perimeter walls of the garden room were designed to follow the line of boundary allowing us to maximise the space inside. The side elevation facing the childrens play area also incorporates a chalkboard into the design which the children can draw and play with or leave messages on.

The client wanted to have a link to their own company in the design of the garden room. After choosing Cedar wood for the warmth and quality of finish, we also created graphic overlays from their company logo that were attached to the edges of the garden room, creating a unique and personal touch to the garden room’s final look.

The architecture of the garden room and angles of the overlays/decking tie in seemlessly with the tree seating area and carry on the angular theme, making the family garden room look like it has been in the garden forever.

Hug created a playful quirky multifunctional space to be enjoyed by all members of the family. The space is large enough to house an office area, lounge/relaxing area and childrens play area.

A Family Garden Room for everyone

To link the HUG Family Garden Room to the existing tree and children’s play area a simple decking solution wrapped around, making a seamless transition between the two. For added interaction the side wrap facing the play area used a chalk board material so the children can leave chalk messages, draw pictures or even have outdoor homework lessons with their parents.

MY HUG

“It goes without saying that the space has transformed our lives by providing us a multi-use room that the whole family enjoys, but what sets HUG apart from the rest is the level of tailoring and attention to detail.

They over delivered on the areas that I’m particular about with regards to the finish, the detail, and the design. The design fits the nonconventional space and has elements of the garden incorporated to make it feel like it is part of the garden and not a prefab building.

Overall, we were incredibly happy with the process and the execution – we felt fully involved at all times and the end results were worth every penny”.
